Hello lovelies ,
Hope you're having a great Monday :)
In the last few months I have been using an amazing cheap homemade toner. You might have heard a lot about it , its none other than The Green Tea Toner
And to be very honest , this has worked wonders for my skin .
The importance and effectiveness of toners has been long debated.
I would say to each his own. I swear by the cardinal rule of skincare - The CTM
Cleansing
Toning
Moisturizing
Without any toner/Liquid after cleansing , my face seems lifeless , I have to use a toner , be it the plain old rose water .
I tried many in past few months , Fab India , Aroma Magic. Ponds white beauty and even the oriflame one .
None of them made such huge difference to my skin
Let me tell you something about green tea now :)
Green tea - said to prevent heart disease and cancer, gum disease, skin aging and weight loss. Studies have shown that tea polyphenols can protect against the effects of many illnesses. Tea comes in black, green and white and the difference comes in the harvesting and processing. In particular, skin is said to benefit from topical application of green tea as well.
Green tea contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory elements and topical green tea polyphenols will likely slow down the aging process. Sun protection benefits of green tea have been documented and thus applying a green tea formula under your sunscreen is helpful. That said, it is best if combined with zinc oxide-based sunscreens.
I have been using this toner since past two months and it has done wonders
I use the following recipe for my combination/oily acne prone skin.
Here's my step by step Green tea toner tutorial

I have been using this toner since past two months and it has done wonders
- My pores are more refined
- My skin more glowy
- I break out less often
- I noticed fewer blackheads/whiteheads on my nose ( this might be due to the fact that I use a teeny bit of baking soda in my toner)This is more than I can ask from a toner and I'm super duper happy :D
I use the following recipe for my combination/oily acne prone skin.
Here's my step by step Green tea toner tutorial
You will need :-
- 1 cup boiled water
- 1 spoon green tea leaves / 1 green tea bag
- Juice from a lemon half
- 1tbsp Baking soda
- Honey/tea tree oil (according to your liking)
- Container to store the toner
- Take a cup filled with hot water , immerse the tea bag for 5 minutes
- Squeeze Juice of half lemon
- Add 1 Tea spoon of Baking Soda to the mixture
The toner should look something like this
Refigerate and use
For reference , You may add a spoon of honey , if you have dry skin
Skip Baking soda if you sensitive skin
Add tea tree oil/baking soda for blemish / acne prone skin
I hope you'll try it . Let me know how it turns out :)
fabulous..i too have acne prone skin so i ll definitely try this..

This sounds amazing! I'm so going to try it.
ReplyDeleteBut few questions - lemon makes the skin photo sensitive, so doesn't it have a bleaching effect? Also, does it burn/irritate the skin? Do you avoid using this around the eye area? And how many drops of tea tree EO?
@pavani - Do let me know how it works for you :)
ReplyDelete@poohkie- I dont use it around eye area , actually I NEVER use any toner near my eye.
tolerance to lemon varies according to person .I suffer from frequent tans, so I regularly use lemon in my face packs and toner and it doesnt sting, for me , it clears my horrible tan :D
Do perform a patch test of this toner before use .
Make sure to use the toner only at night, if you include lemon , like you said it makes your skin photosensitive ..
For day use the normal green tea toner without lemon .
if I include tea tree oil , I make sure not to exceed 2 drops . Again , it depends how much your skin responds to that particular oil :)
Do let me know if you have more questions :D
